Abstract
This article analyses a set of Master–Disciple relationships in higher education institutions. An attempt was made to characterise the Master in the academic space, taking into account the model approach. The constitutive characteristics of the Master are distinguished and described in the context of relationships with Disciples. A hypothetical catalogue of Disciples’ expectations of the Master is also presented. The importance of the Master’s personality traits in relationships with Disciples is highlighted, and charismatic and transformational Masters are characterised. A separate section is devoted to the problems of popularising science by the Master. Attention is also drawn to the pathological nature of relationships, both on the part of the Master and the Disciples.
